About Nursing & Midwifery

Welcome from Vicki Simpson, Director Nursing, Midwifery and Workforce

Welcome to Nursing and Midwifery on the Mid North Coast.

Employing approximately 3,800 staff the Local Health District is the leading employer on the Mid North Coast.  Just over half of these staff are Nurses and Midwives.

With the health care needs of our community on the Mid North Coast expected to increase dramatically in the coming years, there has never been a better time to consider starting a career in nursing or midwifery or relocating your career to this vibrant and diverse region.

Multimillion dollar redevelopments underway at Port Macquarie and Kempsey Hospitals will further increase the demand for nurses and midwives from 2014. With a high percentage of Aboriginal people living in the Mid North Coast – 5% compared to the NSW average of 2.5% – we are keenly seeking Aboriginal people to join our team.

Nurses and midwives are a vital part of health services on the Mid North coast. They are critical to ensuring the delivery of quality, timely care to patients. We offer nurses and midwives a diverse range of employment opportunities from two major referral hospitals located at Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie to smaller facilities at Kempsey and Macksville and boutique country facilities at Bellingen, Wauchope and Dorrigo.

In collaboration with our local Universities, the Executive team is committed to creating a positive workplace for nurses and midwives where person-centred care is central, talent is recognised and grown, leadership is supported and developed and success is celebrated.

We offer flexible working conditions with good remuneration. We are proud of our achievements leading new models of care and innovation in New South Wales such as the Essential of Care Program and Health E-tube.  Our nurses and midwives are regularly invited to present achievements at state and national conferences.

The Mid North Coast is a region that is widely regarded as having one of the most liveable climates in Australia. Beyond fantastic weather, the region offers a distinctive mix of cosmopolitan living, beach culture, carefree village lifestyle and an unmistakable rural vibe. The economies of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie are growing by the day and rapidly becoming key regional centres and are amongst Australia’s most recognised visitor destinations.

I invite you to explore the information on this website and consider stating or continuing your nursing or midwifery career on the Mid North Coast, doing something where you really can made a difference – everyday.
