Wauchope is known for its generosity, and once again that community spirit has shone brightly in support of palliative care patients.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bardi Café’s dynamic duo Belinda West and Taryn Hilan approached local businesses to create a hamper in the hope of raising funds for Wauchope District Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.

Combined with a Pink Night at Beechwood Hotel, the community effort raised a remarkable $2255.30 for patient comfort items at the highly regarded unit.

The fundraiser was a bitter-sweet reminder of what it means to be part of a caring community, as the palliative care unit looked after Taryn’s mum, Cas Hay, eight years ago and Taryn’s friend, Lorraine Eady, two years ago.

Nurse Unit Manager Mary Trotter was grateful for the donation, which will be used to buy patient comfort items.

“Thank you Wauchope for once again supporting our patients and their families,” Ms Trotter said.
