Colouring My Life

Colouring my Life is a post-natal distress (depression) support and self-awareness group for women in the Hastings Macleay region who are experiencing post-natal depression.

The program is free and morning tea is provided at no cost.

Child minding is also available on site, with prior arrangement. When booking into the program please let the coordinator know if you need child-minding.

Colouring my Life is a program run by staff from the Port Macquarie Health Campus’ Child and Family team. Each session is delivered in a supportive environment that promotes group discussion around post-natal depression and ways of managing your depression in a practical way.

The sessions involve some group and individual activities with a take home activity each week. The groups are relaxed and there is plenty of time to share experiences and information. Facilitators of the program include a child and family health nurse, a women’s health nurse and social workers. Individual counselling is also available if required.

The program promotes positive self-growth in a supportive environment. The topics below are covered during the course of the program:

  • identifying and exploring the mood
  • myths of motherhood
  • compassionate self talk
  • getting in touch with me including self-care
  • keeping the colour in my life
  • what’s different in my life and supports to help
  • the importance of play in the mother child relationship.
